A league Division 3 Round 1
Dunsany got off to a disappointing start to their A league campaign on Thursday night in Longwood.
In a scrappy start both teams traded score early on. Pierre Fox and Cathal Murphy pointed frees from placed balls. Mid way through the have the visitors took control of the half created a number of scoring opportunities but the 'woods defence held firm only offering up points when goals could have been seized.
Murphy and Fox again pointed both from play and placed balls to give Dunsany a 2-point lead. Longwood rallied to leveel and after another Murphy point Dunsany went in at the break ahead by the minimum.
The second half was the homeside as they took charge. They overturned the lead and began to push on leading 9-6 , 18 minutes into the half. It could have been more only for some brilliant composed defending from the Dunsany rear-guard, especially Gaz Byrne who put in two magnificent blocks to keep the 'wood' at bay.
Murphy and fox again added points but that was it for the visitors as they could not break down the resilient Longwood defence, and while chasing the game were caught on the break and conceded a break awway goal which was clinically finished off.
A mix up in the Longwood defence saw an own goal conceded but Dunsany could not capitalise as Longwood saw out the game and were deserving winners.
